Mediamine is proving to be a good first step into the industry and allows me to experience at firsthand some of what I learnt at university being put into practice. I graduated in 2015 with a BA from Victoria University, double majoring in media and criminology.
That might seem like an odd combination, but I’ve always loved watching crime shows and found criminology really interesting. It brings together law, psychology, policing, sociology, and cultural studies to give a ‘big picture’ view of crime in our society. We also looked at the way media reports on crime, and at Mediamine I’ve enjoyed learning more generally about news stories are presented.
Analytics is one of my favourite parts of the job, particularly Quality Score Reporting. It lets you look at a story from a different perspective, as you dissect each element.
Eventually I’d love to find a job that lets me use both sides of my degree, such as a comms role with the Police, and I think the skills I’ve acquired at Mediamine are a good step down that path.
